The 2024 Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) was created through a collaboration between the US Department of Transportation, Transport Canada, and Mexico’s Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT). It is designed for use by firefighters, police, and other emergency personnel who are often first on the scene of a transportation incident involving hazardous materials. The ERG serves as a crucial tool to help first responders quickly identify the type of hazardous materials involved and take steps to protect themselves and the public during the initial response phase. The guidebook is updated every three to four years to incorporate new products and technological advancements.
